Journey Builder Workflow

The process of planning and launching a campaign can be broken into the following phases and stages.

Planning

  • During this phase you will plan out the user journey and create the user flow using Blueshift’s journey builder. You do not need to worry about the actual messages or campaign setup at this stage.
  • During this phase you will be spending all your time in the Journey tab of the Campaign Studio.

Configuration

  • Once you have laid out the user journey, you can start configuring the messages, tracking parameters, and various execution settings for your campaign.
  • During this phase you will be splitting your time inside the trigger detail panel in the Journey tab and the Properties tab of the campaign studio.

Validation

  • Once you’ve built out the user journey and have configured your campaign, you will need to validate the campaign so that it doesn’t error out during execution.
  • During this phase you will be spending a lot of your time in the validation panel in the Journey tab of the campaign studio.

Launch

  • Finally, once your campaign has been validated, you will be ready to launch it.
  • You might want to check your campaign calendar for other conflicting or competing campaigns so that you don’t send duplicate messages to your customers.
  • Once you launch your campaign, it will start messaging users.

Measurement

  • Once a campaign starts messaging users, you can start measuring its impact using the various reporting tools available on the Blueshift platform.
  • During this phase you will be splitting your time viewing the journey in the metric mode and checking the reports in the Reports tab of the campaign studio.

Campaign Lifecycle

The above phases correspond to different stages in a campaign’s lifecycle:

Draft

  • This is the pre-launch stage for a campaign. While you’re in your planning, configuration and validation phase, the campaign will be in the ‘draft’ mode.
  • The campaign cannot message users in this state.
  • You can change all campaign settings when the campaign is in draft state.

Launched

  • This is the state the campaign is when you ‘launch’ it.
  • This is the live state of a campaign when it actively messages users based on your criteria.
  • For event triggered campaigns, you can change some campaign settings when the campaign is in launched state.

Completed

  • This is the last state in a campaign’s lifecycle. Once the campaign has completed messaging all the users or when it has reached its ‘end’ date, it will move to the completed state.
  • It will no longer message any user in this state.
  • You cannot change any campaign settings when the campaign is in completed state.

Paused

  • Sometimes you may need to make some adjustments to your campaign or just stop messaging your users temporarily. Blueshift allows you to pause a ‘launched’ campaign to cater to such situations.
  • The campaign cannot message users in this state.
  • You can change some campaign settings when the campaign is in paused state.

For more information about pausing and relaunching campaigns, see Relaunching paused campaigns.
