Inbound

  • An inbound campaign allows you to engage users on your website or mobile app by showing relevant and personalized content.
  • The inbound campaign type supported on the Blueshift platform is called LiveContent.

Outbound

  • An outbound campaign allows you to engage users outside your website or app by sending them messages via different channels of communication.
  • There are 4 different types of campaigns that fall into this category.
  • The journey builder helps you orchestrate this type of campaign. When we refer to campaigns in the scope of the journey builder, we will be referring to outbound campaigns only.

Outbound Campaigns

Outbound campaigns can be further categorized based on how they are triggered.

Segment Based

Campaigns which target a group of users who meet certain criteria (i.e. a segment): One Time, Recurring, and Segment Triggered campaigns.

Action Based

Campaigns which are triggered whenever there is an action e.g. (a) an event, (b) an API call or (c) an interest alert: Event Triggered campaign

Segment Based Campaigns

Segment based campaigns can be further categorized based on how the segment of users is messaged.

All Users

  • Campaigns that evaluate all users to see if they meet the segment criteria every time the campaign is triggered: One Time and Recurring campaigns.

New Users

  • Campaigns that message users who meet the segment criteria the first time the campaign is launched, but then only message new users who meet the criteria subsequently: Segment Triggered campaigns.
  • These campaigns continuously monitor the segment criteria and message users as soon as they meet the criteria.
  • These campaigns can only be used for segments with 4M or fewer users.

Segment based campaigns that target all users can be further subdivided into 2 categories based on execution schedule.

Runs Once

  • If the campaign is meant to message only once, it is called a One Time campaign within Blueshift.

Runs Repeatedly

  • If the campaign is meant to message users multiple times based on a custom schedule, it is called a Recurring campaign within Blueshift.

These campaigns (i.e. one-time and recurring) have certain unique characteristics.

  • Urgency: There’s an expectation of urgency when messaging all the users. Hence these campaigns only support filters which can be evaluated quickly. Typically these are filters based on user attributes.
  • Steps: These campaigns are limited to a single step. Follow-up actions are dependent on the end user interacting with the initial message. Since all users can’t be messaged at once, (the way these campaigns message users), such campaigns can’t support follow-up actions.
