Sending a copy of the email to specified users can be helpful for testing purposes or simply for keeping a record of what your customers receive. A sample use case for this feature is sending a copy to a support inbox, allowing your customer support staff to reference it. This feature functions similarly to BCC in many email clients.
Billing impact of email copies
Email copies are counted as additional sends for billing purposes.
Set BCC recipients in trigger settings
For email triggers in campaigns, you can send a copy of the email to a set of specified email addresses whenever a user is messaged.
Important
This feature sends a copy of every email sent to every user in the trigger to the specified BCC recipients. Be sure to use it only when this behavior is intended.
Contact support to enable this feature
This feature is hidden by default. Please reach out to support @ blueshift.com to enable it.
To send copies of emails, go to the Channel tab of the trigger in your campaign. Add the required email addresses in the 'BCC Every Email To' field in the Send Settings section. By default, the field is blank, which means no copies will be sent.
- In the text box, enter a comma-separated list of email addresses to message.
- You can also use a Liquid expression to specify the recipients dynamically. For example, if you are running an event-triggered campaign and the event has an attribute
bcc
that is equal to 'support@blueshift.com,' you can use the Liquid expression{{bcc}}
. A copy of every email will then be sent to 'support@blueshift.com' for each messaged user. - You can even use a combination of hardcoded emails and Liquid.
Set default BCC recipients in adapter settings
You can specify a set of email addresses in the BCC field of your adapter settings. When this adapter is used in any trigger within a campaign journey, the trigger's BCC field is automatically populated with these addresses by default. The screenshot below shows an example where the adapter has campaign_records@company.com set as the default BCC.
Email BCC options
There are two methods for sending copies of the message, each with key differences. Both Standard BCC and Native BCC send email copies separately. The Native BCC setting is intended for Bring Your Own ESP customers in Blueshift. Contact support@blueshift.com or your CSM to discuss enabling Native BCC.
Standard - send a copy to
- The email is sent as a separate message and counts as an additional send, doubling your send costs.
- The volume is tracked in your account under 'BCC Emails Sent.'
- Clicks and opens for the copy of the message are NOT captured.
- The subject of the email copy will include the original recipient's email address. This behavior is configurable, allowing you to omit the email address for privacy.
Native BCC
- This is for use with 'Bring Your Own ESP' customers.
- The email is sent separately but is not currently tracked under 'BCC Emails Sent.' However, your ESP may still charge for sending a BCC like a regular email.
- The BCC message is an exact copy of the original email.
- Clicks and opens for the BCC message are captured but attributed to the original recipient when the BCC email interacts with the message. This can impact campaign metrics and overall reporting.
- A dedicated core metric called Native BCC Sends is now available to help you track emails sent using this method. This metric appears in:
- Insight and campaign reports
- Campaign and template index pages
- The Plan & Usage screen
If you need assistance choosing the appropriate BCC option for your account, please get in touch with support@blueshift.com or your Customer Support Manager (CSM).
