Insights Reports help you understand campaign performance and quickly spot areas for improvement. While a single report offers valuable information, comparing two reporting periods side by side can reveal more profound insights. This time-over-time analysis highlights what has changed, enabling you to identify the causes and adjust your strategy for improved outcomes.
Time over time analysis
The example below compares sends from a fixed time period (September 1–30, 2023) with sends from the previous period (August 2–31, 2023).
Use cases
Compare to a previous time period
Compare campaign performance to the immediately preceding period of the same duration.
- Select the required metric.
- Choose the time period you want to analyze. For example: yesterday, last 7 days, last 90 days, last year, etc.
- For Compare to, select Previous period. The system will automatically determine the corresponding previous period.
Example: Compare sends, grouped by channel, from the last 90 days (April 14, 2023, to July 13, 2023) to sends from the previous 90-day period (January 13, 2023, to April 13, 2023).
More examples:
Compare yesterday to the day before yesterday. |
|
Compare the last 7 days to the previous 7 days (e.g., day 1 to day 8, day 2 to day 9, and so on). |
|
Compare the current month-to-date days to the same days in the previous month. For example, compare the 1st–19th of this month to the 1st–19th of last month. |
|
Compare the months so far this year to the same months in the previous year. For example, compare January–August this year to January–August last year. |
|
Compare a moving time period
Compare campaign performance from a selected time period to a preceding period.
- Select the required metric.
- Choose the time period you want to analyze. For example: yesterday, the last 7 days, the last 90 days, last year, and so on.
- For Compare to, select Moving time window, then choose the time period for comparison.
Important note on moving time windows
Moving time windows are aligned to the first day of each month only when comparing by months. For example, if you select “Past 1 month” and use a moving time window, the comparison period will start from the first day of the previous month. This behavior does not apply when comparing by days, weeks, or hours.
Example: Compare impressions, grouped by browser type, from the last 7 days (October 1–8, 2023) to a moving time period aligned to the calendar days 12 months earlier (October 1–8, 2022).
More examples:
Compare yesterday to 12 months earlier. |
|
Compare the last 7 days to the calendar-aligned range 12 months earlier. |
|
Compare the 2-month period from 3 months ago to 1 month ago, with a calendar-aligned period 12 months prior. |
|
Compare a fixed time period
You can use this option if you have a specific benchmark period you'd like to compare against.
- Select the required metric.
- Select the fixed time period you want to analyze.
- For Compare to, select Fixed time window, then choose the required start and end dates for the comparison.
Example: Compare sends from a fixed time period (October 2–8, 2023) to another fixed period (May 8–14, 2023).
More examples:
Compare Black Friday week in 2022 to Black Friday week in 2021. |
|
Compare June 2023 to November 2022. |
|
Compare Q2 2023 to Q2 2019. |
|
Compare the previous month
Use this option when the time window of your report is less than a full month. It allows you to compare the selected range to the same number of days in the previous month.
Example: Compare month-to-date sends for this month (April 1–9, 2024) to the same period last month (March 1–9, 2024).
Compare the previous year
Use this option when the time window of your report is less than a full year. It lets you compare the selected range to the same calendar-aligned period in the previous year.
Example: Compare year-to-date sends for this year (January 1–April 6, 2024) to the same period last year (January 1–April 6, 2023).
