Blueshift enables you to export campaign activity data directly to your Google BigQuery project, allowing you to analyze customer engagement and campaign performance using your existing analytics tools.
Exported data includes campaign actions such as sent, delivered, opened, and more.
Consider the following points about campaign activity reports in BigQuery
- Data exports begin from the day the integration is set up; historical data availability may vary.
- Exports to Google BigQuery are batched and processed daily (once a day).
- Campaign activity data is retained for 3 months.
- You can start or stop the export at any time after the setup is complete.
- Your BigQuery workspace email must match the authorized user for the shared dataset.
- For schema details, please take a look at the campaign activity attributes.
Before you begin
- Ensure the Enable Google BigQuery exports feature is available for your account. If not, please get in touch with your CSM to enable the feature.
- You can get your BigQuery workspace email from the BigQuery console by clicking your profile icon in the top-right corner. This email is used to authorize access to the shared dataset.
Secure data sharing for campaign activity
With secure data sharing, no actual data is copied or transferred between accounts. Shared data does not consume storage in your account and does not contribute to monthly storage costs. The only charges incurred are for computing resources used to process and analyze the shared data.
Benefits of campaign activity exports
- Access detailed records of all campaign actions, including sent, delivered, opened, clicked, and more.
- Gain valuable insights to track and measure campaign performance using raw event data.
- Review individual campaign activity reports to monitor engagement trends over time.
- Data is securely stored and can be accessed without additional ETL processing.
Step 1: Configure BigQuery export in Blueshift
- Go to Account Settings > Campaign Activity Export.
- Click the Export to Google BigQuery tab.
- Enter your BigQuery workspace email address in the provided input field.
- Use the email address associated with your BigQuery workspace that you want to use to access the shared dataset.
- Click Start BigQuery Exports to initiate the export process.
- The status (below the button) will update to Enabled once the export is successfully initiated.
- If the status remains Disabled, verify that you have entered the correct BigQuery workspace email address and try again.
- If the issue continues after multiple attempts despite using the correct email address, please contact Blueshift Support or reach out to your CSM.
Step 2: Subscribe to the campaign activity listing in BigQuery
Perform the following actions in the BigQuery console.
- Click Sharing in the left navigation panel.
- Click Search listings at the top of the screen.
- In the left side filters panel on the Published listings pop-up (modal) screen, under Listings, select Private.
- Use the search bar to find the listing titled Analytics Hub Listing for <Account Name>, for example, Analytics Hub Listing for ABC Corp.
Private listing availability
The private listing may take up to 10–15 minutes to appear after it is shared with your account. Refresh the page after a few minutes and check again.
If the listing still doesn't appear, even after the export status shows as Enabled in Step 1, please get in touch with support@blueshift.com or reach out to your CSM.
- Click the listing card to open the listing details.
- Click Subscribe.
- In the Create linked dataset screen:
- Select your target Project ID.
- Rename the Linked dataset name, if needed.
- Click Save.
Linked dataset location
After the export is set up, if the linked dataset name or project is changed in BigQuery, the export will continue uninterrupted. However, the dataset will appear under the updated location in BigQuery.
- After saving, click Studio in the left navigation panel.
- Expand your selected project.
- Open the linked dataset (e.g.,
analytics_hub_listing_for_abc_corp
). - Select the
campaign_activity
table and click Preview to verify the data.
For additional reference, please check Google’s guide on viewing and subscribing to listings.
Step 3: Monitor export status
- After setup, you can monitor the export status directly from the Blueshift Account Settings.
- The status table shows:
- Triggered At – Date and time when the export ran.
- Status – Whether the export succeeded or failed.
- Total Records, Successful Records, and Failed Records.
- You can stop exports at any time by clicking Stop BigQuery Exports.
Once the export is active, your BigQuery workspace can begin querying and integrating this campaign data with other datasets for advanced analysis.
